COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local groups SCLT & SAGE Community Arts received grants to support community celebrations. SCLT will build a shelter for Streetcar No. 115 on its property while SAGE will help offset costs for the Different But SAME exhibition.  The Sheridan Press
  • The Sheridan Community Land Trust announced that its off-leash dog trail experiment at Big Goose Natural Area is now a permanent fixture. The renewed trail offers residents + their dogs a safe spot for exercise and recreation.  The Sheridan Press

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Chamber Bucks program, in place since 1993, helps keep local money circulating by offering checks accepted as cash at participating businesses, with Chamber CEO Teresa Detimore reporting on Dec. 15 that they can be purchased at 54 South Main Street until Tuesday, Dec. 23 (for Christmas shopping).  Sheridan Media

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Museum of the Bighorns will open its new exhibit (Transitions of the Landscape) on January 2 with Family Day from 10 to noon, featuring 20 photos, artifacts and interactive dig boxes; local partners including the Wyoming Archaeological Society will host hands-on stations as the museum funds winter operations.  Sheridan Media
  • Sheridan favorite Dugan Irby returns to the WYO Theater to preview new material with special guest recording artists ahead of his upcoming album. The show starts at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 3 and tickets cost $20.  Sheridan Media
  • Publisher Dennis Sun released a Christmas column featuring a poem by Rhonda Sedgewick Stearns that captures cowboy kids' holiday wishes — the piece looks forward to December twenty-fifth celebrations.  Cowboy State Daily

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sheridan students are taking aviation courses this semester led by SCSD2’s Webb and Holler — courses designed to spark interest in flight and strengthen classroom learning.  The Sheridan Press
  • The SCSD#3 Board held a listening session on Dec. 17 at Clearmont School where parents and community members raised concerns about the mandatory One Claw House System while some students praised its mentoring benefits. The board will meet on Dec. 21 at 1 p.m. to continue discussions.  Sheridan Media

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Sheridan Community Land Trust announced the creation of the Ridgetop Natural Area and the Gillispie Draw Natural Area plus the new Hidden Hoot Conservation Easement planned for December. The project balances conservation with housing needs and will enhance our local natural spaces.  The Sheridan Press

FINANCE NEWS

  • PRECorp is retiring about $3.3 million in capital credits this month to return a portion of money paid for electric usage in 2002 and 2003. Members with service in those years will receive a bill credit or check, joining over $12 million in refunds + Basin Electric's $9.1 million add-on.  Sheridan Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Airport Manager Robert Gill reported ongoing work on a project away from passenger operations following a spring schedule change— the $9.5 million contract awarded to Oftedal Construction, Inc. came as Commissioners Nick Siddle and Christi Haswell noted the airport's key role for local businesses and first responders.  Sheridan Media
  • Sheridan County Emergency Management opened a warming shelter at the Story Library at 20 N Piney Rd in Story to help residents amid power outages from high winds; continuing winter weather later today may delay restoration west of Wagon Box. Residents needing warmth or medical device charging are advised to call (307-752-2174).  Sheridan Media
