COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Dec. 2, the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce welcomed new member Lapiedrarosetta during an Ambassadors’ ribbon cutting in Sheridan. The firm, owned by Maria 'Lola' Guindal, offers expert translations for legal, medical, education and tourism needs plus bridges local cultures in Wyoming.  Sheridan Media
  • The Sheridan County fairgrounds have been closed since last week because a contagious equine virus was found — officials say the fairgrounds could open soon.  The Sheridan Press
  • The Kalif Shriners invite every family to a free Kids Christmas Party at 9 a.m. Saturday Dec. 6 at the Kalif Shriners Temple, where children will meet Santa and get a stocking of goodies. Organizers like Steve Schlenker and Otto Schwartz have worked for decades to make the event a special holiday celebration for local kids.  Sheridan Media
  • SAGE Community Arts has hosted the Members Pop-Up Show since Nov. 28 and it will stay on display and available for purchase until Jan. 3. An artist reception with special guest The Songteller, Dave Munsik will take place at 5:30 p.m. Dec 11—refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served.  Sheridan Media

CULTURE NEWS

  • Ucross Artist Residency set a $25,000 goal for Giving Tuesday on December 2 after communications associate Emi Whiting explained the program’s need for donor support during a local media appearance. The residency provides over 115 artists with meals, a private studio, living space, and a stipend — and depends on generous contributions to continue its work.  City of Sheridan
  • Grammy-winning Suzy Bogguss will perform A Swingin’ Little Christmas at the WYO Performing Arts and Education Center at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 7—tickets cost $70 and are available online, by phone, or at the box office.  Sheridan Media

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Workers have removed much of the asbestos from the old Acme Power Plant site north of Sheridan, but part of the building is unsafe as the roof in two turbine rooms has begun to collapse. The county is working with its engineer, DEQ and EPA to secure funding for demolishing the hazardous section and completing soil decontamination — reclamation work may be finished by the end of next year.  Sheridan Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sheridan County Commissioners ratified a permit for a fireworks display by Bruce Burns at the Ucross Foundation set for Saturday, December 13. They also approved an agreement with Axe Build for hangar improvements at the county airport—contracted for just under $176,000.  Sheridan Media
  • Wyoming State Forester Kelly Norris testified on Tuesday at a U.S. Senate subcommittee hearing on Public Lands, Forests, and Mining in support of Senator Barrasso’s Wildfire Prevention Act—she has 15 years of forestry experience and said the act will give federal agencies new tools to manage more acres and ease timber sales.  Sheridan Media

HEALTH NEWS

  • GoodRx data shows Wyoming’s hair-loss medication fill rate for men ages 18 to 44 was 0.27%—ranking fourth lowest among states compared to a national average of 0.7%. The study found that urban areas such as Washington D.C., Massachusetts, New York, California, and Connecticut had higher fill rates, reflecting differences in income and treatment access.  Wyoming News Now

  • Sheridan WYO Rodeo personnel, including stock contractors, earned top honors from the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and were named for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo—solid recognition of their skill and hard work.  The Sheridan Press
