COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Nov. 14, the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting to celebrate the new location of Hollyhock Swap - a store that sells like-new, pre-owned name-brand clothes for men and women. Business owner Brittany Stroud welcomed local community members at 171 N. Main during the event.  Sheridan Media
  • The Fourth Annual Santa Fly-In will be held on Dec. 6 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Sheridan County Airport Terminal as Santa arrives by airplane flown by an experienced pilot — children can talk with him, use the supplied drawing pencils and stationary to write their Christmas wish list.  Sheridan Media

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Natural History Museum of Wyoming will host its first Night of Discovery Gala on Dec. 1 at the Ramada Convention Center starting at 5 p.m.—the fundraiser will feature musical performances, guest speeches, and a live auction to support museum education and research programs.  Sheridan Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Curator Dave Nicolarsen from the Natural History Museum of Wyoming will deliver a talk at the Clearmont Historical Center on November 20 — his program starts at 2 p.m. and covers the geology of the Bighorn Mountains, the Great Plains, and how Native Americans survived.  Sheridan Media
  • The Northern Wyoming Community College District Board of Trustees is meeting today at Sheridan College in Room 235 of the Whitney Center for the Arts at 5:30 p.m. to receive updates from President Dr. Walt Tribley on district division and the science building, along with reports from the advisory board, Faculty Senate and Student Government Association—an executive session will follow to evaluate his performance and review the annual Board evaluation and ACCT Conference summary.  Sheridan Media
  • At the recent School Board meeting, JCSD1 Facilities Director John Zink explained his meeting with the State Facilities Commission and submitted a written report on current facility projects—HVAC, lighting, and equipment updates. He said a review meeting with the State and EDA for the Kaycee HVAC project is scheduled for November 20th.  Sheridan Media

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Bighorn National Forest staff plan pile burning operations pending required approvals+ weather conditions to reduce overgrown vegetation and protect communities, infrastructure and natural resources; residents in areas such as Burgess Junction, Big Goose, Lynx Park, Highway 16 sites, Antelope Butte Ski area and Crater Ridge may see smoke and are advised to drive carefully.  Sheridan Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Wyoming Game and Fish Department reminds the public that collecting road-killed wildlife including deer, elk, pronghorn, moose, wild bison and wild turkey requires authorization — requests must be made using the Wyoming 511 app even without cellular service.  Sheridan Media
  • Lawmakers in Wyoming are considering increasing the award and flexibility of the Hathaway Scholarship so that more high school graduates can attend college in state. The program, which honors former Gov. Stanley Hathaway, is both merit- and need-based and may expand its benefits in the coming months.  Casper Star-Tribune

HEALTH NEWS

  • Sheridan Memorial Hospital CEO Mike McCafferty appeared on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to explain the hospital’s developing affiliation with Billings Clinic—he said the partnership aims to reduce costs and expand access to specialty care without a merger. He will share more details at a community forum on Wednesday, Nov. 19 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Sheridan County YMCA.  Sheridan Media
