COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Oct. 8, SCSD#2 staff and community members met at Sheridan Junior High School to review Policy IJL for library materials selection—Superintendent Scott Stults and librarian Ladonna Leibrich welcomed feedback and noted the policy will have a second reading before approval.  Sheridan Media

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce welcomed new member Himalayan Kitchen at an Ambassadors’ ribbon cutting on Oct. 9—this restaurant at 2125 N. Main St serves authentic cuisine from India and Nepal with vegan, gluten-free and nut-free options and is owned by Dipendra Raut.  Sheridan Media

CULTURE NEWS

  • SAGE Community Arts hosted an artist talk on October 9 with Monica Fransiscus—creator of Black & White, a tower of repurposed car bumpers in downtown Sheridan—where she explained her creative process and environmental themes. The event was free and open to the public—drawing local interest in community art.  City of Sheridan

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Ten Sheridan County schools will be ranked for 2026 using public data, reviews and survey results—Niche.com selected top elementary schools as Sagebrush, Highland Park and Woodland Park while ranking top middle and high schools including Sheridan Junior High and Sheridan High. The analysis names Sheridan School District #2 as the leading district based on scores, teacher quality and student ratios.  Sheridan Media

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Land Trust is expanding its off-leash area at Big Goose Natural Area at 14 Lane Lane — a 117-acre property with pastures, streams and walking trails that offer fishing for trout and smallmouth bass.  The Sheridan Press
  • On October 9, Wyoming Game and Fish removed a soccer net entangled in a young buck's antlers near Sheridan Junior High School; officials did not sedate the deer and reported that the remaining net did not affect its eating or mobility.  City of Sheridan
  • The Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality and the Wyoming Department of Health advise residents to steer clear of harmful cyanobacteria blooms in lakes+reservoirs as cooler water and air temperatures have reduced outdoor recreation. Officials say the warning is meant to keep people safe when near water.  Wyoming Tribune Eagle

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • National Fire Prevention Week runs through Saturday and highlights lithium-ion battery risks and safe charging practices. City Fire Marshall George Neeson urged residents to use proper charging methods and take used batteries to the City Landfill—rather than the trash—to reduce fire hazards.  Sheridan Media
  • The City of Sheridan will apply for a $4 million Clean Water State Revolving Fund loan to fund its Landfill Cell 9 Closure Project after City Council approved a resolution—City Utilities Director Dan Roberts said the closure is needed as Cell 9 nears capacity and funds will cover design and construction.  Sheridan Media
  • Sheridan County commissioners approved a Landlord’s Consent to Assignment between Bighorn Airways, Inc.—and First Bank of Wyoming after Airport Manager Robert Gill explained the need for the agreement.  Sheridan Media

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Sheridan NAMI chapter provides free mental health support—offering groups and workshops that help people manage anxiety, grief and relationship challenges. The organization will host sessions including a suicide loss support group on the second and fourth Mondays, led by licensed clinicians.  Sheridan Media
