COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Sheridan Community Land Trust has announced the SCLT Explore History program—where Museum at the Bighorns Director Carrie Ida Edinger will share stories on Edward A. Whitney, who arrived in Sheridan in 1885 and created Wyoming’s first educational foundation—as part of plans to display his personal collection. The program will be held on Tuesday, October 14 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at The Hub on Smith and again on Tuesday, October 21 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon at TRVCC in Dayton, and it is free to attend.  Sheridan Media

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On October 7, the Wyoming Highway Patrol reported that a truck hit two cows on US Highway 14A in the Hunt Mountain area, causing the cattle to die while the driver declined medical treatment – officials warn that winter cattle movements from the Bighorn Mountains may leave stray animals on open roads that pose hazards to motorists.  Sheridan Media

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Sheridan College Symphony Band, led by Dr. Eric Richards, will celebrate ten years of music with a free concert featuring students, community musicians, and soloist Gwynff Bodtke on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 4 p.m. in Kinnison Hall at the Whitney Center for the Arts—honoring the band's beginnings with a special performance by the SC Trombone Choir.  City of Sheridan

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sheridan County School District #3 Board of Trustees held their monthly meeting on October 7 after an executive session on personnel matters; in public comments, Misty Moore — District Manager at Wyoming State Parks Absaroka District — stressed the value of local ties while a presentation by Natalie Stoll and Tess Anderson noted an event on Oct. 16 at Panther Claw and changes to policy language on bus drivers, workplace violence, and mandatory child abuse reporting. The board set a community lunch for November 5 at 11:30 a.m. and scheduled additional meetings on November 11 and November 12 at 7 p.m.  Sheridan Media

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Sheridan drivers are urged to ready their vehicles—checking tires, batteries, and fluids—as hazardous winter weather may cause unsafe road conditions and unexpected closures.  The Sheridan Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On October 7th, the Sheridan County Commission denied a request from the Belish’s to remove a condition on the Ferro Minor Conservation Design Subdivision. County Planner Mark Reid said the decision means the condition stays in place—leaving the parties to work out the issue on their own.  City of Sheridan
  • The Sheridan County Commission approved Anthony Spiegelberg to serve on the Sheridan Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees. Commissioner Nick Siddle had asked for nominations to fill the seat.  Sheridan Media
  • Sheridan-based Navy veteran Gail Symons watched a recording of Pete Hegseth’s speech at Quantico where he urged ending DEI practices—she said his words dishonor hard-earned service and dismiss merit. Army veteran Heath Harrower from Pinedale argued the remarks call for a focus on ability over quotas, fueling a debate among military veterans.  Cowboy State Daily
  • County commissioners voted unanimously to approve a notice of intent to repeal the rules for the county’s property tax deferral program — the notice opens a period to seek public input.  The Sheridan Press
