COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On September 30th, the Wyoming Hunger Initiative became an independent nonprofit after five years operating under the governor’s resident's foundation—First Lady Jennie Gordon said the change will give the group more freedom to meet local food needs across all 23 counties.  Wyoming News Now
  • The Sheridan County Land Trust is launching its free Explore History program on Oct. 14 in Sheridan to share Edward A. Whitney’s legacy and his personal collection with the public+ the program will offer insight into local heritage and invite community participation.  The Sheridan Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Sheridan College Symphony Band will celebrate 10 years with a free concert—scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 12 at Kinnison Hall in the Whitney Center for the Arts. Director Eric Richards said the event will honor the band’s start by featuring students, community musicians, soloist Gwynff Bodtke, and a short program by the SC Trombone Choir.  Sheridan Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On October 14, community members will attend a professional judgment panel at the SCSD#2 Central Board Room at 201 N. Connor to give feedback on school funding with Dr. Lawrence O. Picus. The event includes a listening session from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and drop-in feedback from 3:30 to 4:45 p.m. and community input from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m.—details that may influence education resource decisions.  Sheridan Media
  • Sheridan County YMCA executive director Liz Cassiday said on Public Pulse that students must return their Faith Scholarship logbooks by Oct. 31 & the program offers $1,000 to encourage visits to different places of worship. The initiative is designed to help students grow in personal faith and explore various faith traditions.  Sheridan Media
  • At the Oct. 6 board meeting, first-year tennis coach Scott Dickey, who led the boys' team to a state championship (their first win since 1985), was honored along with SHS history teacher Michael Thomas, welding teacher Clay Christensen who received a $50,000 prize, and librarian Ladonna Leibrich. The board also heard a facilities update from Woodland Park School and will review Policy IJL with staff and community members on Oct. 8 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Junior High cafeteria.  Sheridan Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At Tuesday's commission meeting, Sheridan County Commissioners recognized two county employees for their long service — Patrol Sergeant Michael Mullikin served 20 years with the sheriff’s office and Deputy County Clerk Sarah Myers served 15 years in the clerk’s office.  Sheridan Media
  • Hunters planning to use hunter management areas this fall must secure printed permission slips online before heading out to avoid fines or loss of access privileges—there are 65 HMAs managed by Wyoming Game and Fish Department.  Sheridan Media

HEALTH NEWS

  • Governor Mark Gordon and DOH Director Stefan Johansson will hold a virtual meeting on October 9, 3 – 4:00 p.m. to gather input on Wyoming’s Rural Health Transformation Program while a survey runs from today until October 15 to guide the state's proposal for federal funds.  Sheridan Media
