- ➤ Local businesses are invited by the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce to register for the 30th Annual Sheridan Christmas Stroll — themed 30 Years of Strolling — with registrations due by Oct. 21. The Sheridan Press
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ WYO and Trident are celebrating the 50th anniversary of Rocky Horror with a one-night showing on Oct. 30 at the WYO Theater. The cult film—now the longest-running theatrical release—draws fans with its legacy from stage to midnight screenings. Sheridan Media
- ➤ On Friday, October 10, the Brinton Museum will host Shannon Smith in a lecture on Mari Sandoz’s impact on Western history—she will highlight Sandoz’s groundbreaking works and her advocacy for Native communities. A cash bar opens at 5 p.m. before the lecture starts at 5:30 and an optional ticketed prix fixe dinner follows. Sheridan Media
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Sheridan City Council will consider an ordinance on Monday night to rezone 31.8 acres on the 900 block of East 5th Street from R-1 to B-1—intended for multi-family residential and potential future commercial use, city planner Kelly Schroeder said. The meeting will also review ordinances to deannex 3.64 acres and annex 4.15 acres near Kendrick Municipal Golf Course at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall. Sheridan Media
- ➤ A government shutdown that began Oct. 1 furloughed many federal workers and raised funding concerns for local government and nonprofits—officials said some programs might face delays until it ends. The Sheridan Press
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ At last week’s Hospital Board meeting, Sheridan Memorial Hospital spent over $4 million to purchase a 55% stake in the Sheridan Surgical Center—located at the hospital's southwest corner on West 5th Street. The center, which has offered outpatient surgical services since 2005, is expected to boost the hospital’s operations and local health care ties. Sheridan Media
