COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Habitat for Humanity of the Eastern Bighorns is joining Habitat for Humanity International’s inaugural Rural Rally to highlight affordable housing challenges in rural areas. It will host an event at Weston Village on Oct 29—Executive Director Dieterich said the event will draw local attention to housing needs.  Sheridan Media

CULTURE NEWS

  • SAGE Community Arts is asking for black and white photos for a juried exhibit open today through December 1; the 11th Annual Photography Show will be held in January and judged by Alex Pigeon—Jill Benson said she looks forward to seeing new entries.  Sheridan Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sheridan College will honor British synth-pop duo Yaz with a tribute concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4 at Kinnison Hall at the Whitney Center for the Arts. Dr. Chris Erickson's team has prepared a multi-sensory performance featuring local talent such as Miss Wyoming USA 2023 and Army Sergeant Beck Bridger as part of the new fall Music Tech Presents series.  City of Sheridan
  • Clayton Christensen, a Sheridan High School welding teacher and Wright High School graduate, won a $50,000 award today from Harbor Freight Tools for Schools to upgrade his welding program—he entered the contest to improve tools and boost student skills in trades.  Sheridan Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Mark Gordon met with miners from the Powder River Basin, Senate President Bo Biteman, and federal officials on September 30 to launch new policies—meant to extend the life of coal-fired power plants and open export paths for Wyoming coal to Asia.  City of Sheridan
  • Game and Fish Department reminds local hunters to treat every firearm as loaded and to always know their target — a key step to keep accidents at bay — as hunting season nears. They also advise hunters to inform someone of their plans and to carry extra supplies for safe outings.  Sheridan Media
  • The Sheridan County Commission approved a second amendment for the fiscal year 2024 to 2025 budget, with County Clerk/Budget Officer Eda Schunk-Thompson explaining the need (it was delayed due to required publication in the local newspaper). No comment was offered during the public hearing.  Sheridan Media
  • Johnson County’s one-percent collections increased for the first quarter of the 2025-26 fiscal year, according to Commission Chairman Bill Novotny. County Treasurer Carla Bishop explained funds must be sent to the state by the 20th of each month—smaller entities report quarterly, so totals may not be complete.  City of Sheridan

  • Sheridan Memorial Hospital welcomed Dr. Lisa Mullen to its primary care team (she is board-certified in family medicine) and she will treat local patients in the area.  The Sheridan Press
