  • The Sheridan Community Land Trust will host a free barbecue from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28 at Aspen Trailhead at Red Grade Trails to celebrate the opening of the Highlander Trail—supported by Wyoming Pathways—which connects the Aspen Trailhead to the Little Bear Loop in the Bighorns.  City of Sheridan

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Natural History Museum of Wyoming in the Mohns Center at Sheridan College, led by Director Tom Hebert, held a volunteer workshop on September 25 with over 60 participants and features dinosaur bones and local plant fossils. EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Wyoming Department of Education announced it has been awarded a $24.4 million CLSD grant from the U.S. Department of Education to improve literacy for children from birth through grade 12—funding reading instruction and professional development for educators. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Earlier this summer, the Wyoming Game and Fish Department released about 2,000 rainbow trout—resistant to whirling disease—into the North Tongue River to help reverse a steady 15-year decline in trout numbers. Fisheries biologist Andrew Nikirk said the agency will track the fish for signs of reproduction in 2026 as part of its ongoing efforts to restore the population.  Sheridan Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A legislative committee advanced a bill draft on government data privacy this week that stops the sale or trade of personal data without a person's clear consent — and it requires rules on how long data can be kept. The bill will move forward as a committee-sponsored measure during the 2026 budget session after changes clarified how public records are handled.  Casper Star-Tribune
  • The Wyoming Highway Patrol introduced its new Dispatch Center platform on September 16 that uses the Carbyne APEX system to improve response times by offering silent texting, live Spanish translations, and caller-activated location pings — a major upgrade from the old phone system.  Wyoming News Now
  • Sheridan City Council accepted a Safe Streets for All grant award from the U.S. Department of Transportation for $200,000 with a required $50,000 public match, noted Public Works Director Hanns Mercer.
