COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The 49th Annual Clearmont Community Center Auction and Dinner will be held on Sunday September 28th at 5:30 p.m. in the community center basement where dinner will feature ribs and cheesy potatoes at $15 a plate, and local businesses from Buffalo, Clearmont, and Sheridan will provide auction items and raffle prizes including a Ruger Gen2 rifle—tickets cost $10 each or $50 for six. - ➤ On Tuesday, Saluting Branches provided its first landscaping services at the Sheridan Veterans Affairs Health Care System campus—an effort that improves the grounds for veterans. The Sheridan Press
- ➤ The Tongue River Fire Department held vehicle extraction training today with vehicles donated by Ted’s Towing of Sheridan so volunteers practiced key rescue skills—like stabilizing vehicles and using tools. Fire Chief Jeff Barron said the drill prepares firefighters for emergencies—helping them respond swiftly when needed. Sheridan Media

- ➤ Roxanne Everett from Seattle was honored on Tuesday, September 23 at Ucross Art Gallery as the first artist in the Big Red Showcase — her acrylic paintings, inspired by her time as a back-country ranger, are on display and for sale until January 10. President Caitlin Addlesperger thanked Big Red Society members at the event and noted Everett’s transition from architect to painter. Sheridan Media
- ➤ Jentel will host a monthly showcase on Sept. 30 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library Inner Circle where local residents share visual art, writing and music (cookies will be provided). ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ The Wyoming Business Council has relaunched its Kickstart Grant Program to help local startups boost the economy, with recipients like Zach Rachlin using funds to support app development and legal licensing matters — the program aims to retain local talent and attract outside investment — and grant applications are open until September 30th. This effort, which restarted in 2024 after a COVID pause, seeks to strengthen Wyoming's business climate. Wyoming News Now
- ➤ State figures show Wyoming’s unemployment rate fell to 3.2% in August from 3.3% last month—non-farm jobs increased by 1,200 since last August. In Sheridan County the rate held at 2.5% while Johnson County dropped to 2.1% from 2.2%. City of Sheridan

- ➤ The A-C School Lunch with the Community will be held on October 1 from 11:30 a.m. to noon with House Herculean hosting a brief program – the school will also celebrate Wyoming Farm to School Day on October 8 by serving locally grown foods. Those wishing to attend must contact the school before noon today at 307-758-4412 or in person to secure their $5 order. City of Sheridan
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is reminding hunters to follow state rules when transporting deer, elk and moose carcasses to prevent chronic wasting disease — heads and spinal columns must remain at the kill site and carcasses should be taken to approved dumpsters. Several dumpsters in the Sheridan Region will be available from early October to late December for proper disposal, and hunters should note that other states have different rules. Sheridan Media
- ➤ Today, the Sheridan County Conservation District is assessing, repairing and cleaning up damage from the Elk Fire, a lightning-caused blaze that burned more than 98,000 acres on the eastern face of the Bighorn Mountains and in the Bighorn National Forest. The district is performing additional water testing, debris removal, reservoir cleaning and irrigation repairs with nearly $270,000 in designated funds — addressing new recovery challenges. - ➤ Sheridan County commissioners approved a letter opposing the new power transmission line near Big Horn on Monday—showing their strong stance against the project. Wyoming Tribune Eagle
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ State officials say Wyoming still has one of the highest suicide rates in the country—despite strong efforts to improve mental health care, more work is needed to lower the numbers. Casper Star-Tribune
