COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Antelope Butte Foundation general manager John DeVivo said Sheridan families can enjoy affordable, beginner-friendly skiing at Antelope Butte Recreation Area as the nonprofit builds a large rental inventory with help from Vail, Boyne, and local support—offering free passes for youth under 18 to boost outdoor fun. The initiative aims to keep costs low while planning future maintenance and improvements.  City of Sheridan

CULTURE NEWS

  • Museum at the Bighorns director Carrie Edinger and operations manager Chip King updated on the Phase 2 remodel at the old Woolworth Building—the front section is open while crews work on the back to safely store historical artifacts and delay changes in hours until October. The museum will also join the Downtown Sheridan Association’s Main Street Monster Mash at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25.  City of Sheridan

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services said statewide unemployment in August 2025 dropped to 3.2% from 3.3%, with Sheridan County’s rate holding at 2.5%—down from 3.0% last year, while Johnson County’s rate declined from 2.2% in July to 2.1%. Non-farm employment statewide increased by 1,200 jobs from last August.  Sheridan Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A-C School will host the School Lunch with the Community on Oct. 1 from 11:30 a.m. to noon as House Herculean gives a short program about their house, and the school will mark Wyoming Farm to School Day on Oct. 8 with locally grown foods; interested attendees must contact the school by noon on Sept. 25 to prepay the $5 cost.  Sheridan Media

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Sheridan Community Land Trust Director of Conservation John Graves is testing a virtual fencing pilot that uses GPS enabled collars on cattle to set invisible boundaries—three local ranchers are recording benefits and challenges for future field visits.  Sheridan Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Sheridan City Council certified the final plat for the Outlaw Commercial Park Subdivision on September 23 — approving the division of 8.47 acres at 1739 Brundage Lane into seven commercial use lots in the Joint Planning Area. City Planner Kelly Schroeder confirmed the development aligns with the Joint Land Use Plan goals.  City of Sheridan
  • The City of Sheridan worked with Sheridan Heights Ranch, LLC in December 2024 to adjust the boundary of the Kendrick Municipal Golf Course. The City Council approved both ordinances twice—final voting is set for October 6 to deannex 3.64 acres and annex 4.15 acres.  Sheridan Media
  • Wyoming Game and Fish announced new 2025 hunting rules in the Sheridan Region that will require antlered mule deer to have three points in Deer Hunt Areas 19, 25, 29 and 31 or allow any white-tailed deer, change boundaries for Elk Hunt Areas 123 and 126 in Raven Creek, offer a Type 8 elk license in Area 113 for private land, shorten the mule deer season in Area 32, and open a new walk-in area in Campbell County #9 — open for deer, elk, antelope, turkeys and rabbits with Area 7 set to close Oct. 31. Hunters must review the detailed rules on the Wyoming Game and Fish website and carry a free annual permit for sage grouse in areas outside eastern Wyoming — where that season remains closed.  Sheridan Media
  • The Sheridan County Board of County Commissioners approved a letter opposing a new power transmission line near Big Horn Monday—firmly voicing their disapproval—and the decision marks an official rejection of the current construction plan.  The Sheridan Press

HEALTH NEWS

  • Sheridan County saw more suicides so far this year than in 2023 or 2024 despite increased prevention efforts — local health officials say crisis resources remain available.  The Sheridan Press

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Stacker used 2025 Niche data to find affordable places to live by examining home values, rents, and income levels—showing that Wyoming’s Kemmerer offers a good quality of life at low cost. The analysis includes key figures like median household income and home value that confirm Kemmerer as the top affordable choice.  Casper Star-Tribune
