COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Story Women’s Club is preparing 20 turkeys, 55 pies—plus enough side dishes to feed a community—for its 50th anniversary Turkey Dinner event. The feast will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 5 at the club.  Sheridan Media
  • The Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce celebrated the opening of the new Whitney Commons East Park Playground with an Ambassadors’ ribbon cutting on Sept. 18. The 9,700 square foot playground is divided into areas for younger and older children and includes picnic benches and workout equipment — a recumbent cycle, walker, leg press and chest press — at 320 W. Alger St.  Sheridan Media

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Wyoming Arts Council and the Piatigorsky Foundation have announced a fall statewide tour featuring violinist Linda Rosenthal and piano accompanist Steven Heyman—performances will take place at various venues later this fall.  The Sheridan Press
  • The eighth WYO Film Festival will give two cash awards to filmmakers at the event set for Oct. 2-5 in Sheridan—marking the new Audience Choice Awards initiative.  The Sheridan Press

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Wyoming is expected to add 1,340 new manufacturing jobs by 2032—up from 10,201 to 11,541, a 13.1% increase. Total employment is also forecast to grow from 274,118 to 307,365 over the same period.  Wyoming News Now

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Five Sheridan High School students have been named among 16,000 National Merit Scholar semifinalists—an honor that spotlights their academic achievement.  The Sheridan Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Visitors to SCLT’s Big Goose Natural Area may notice the land looks different this week as crews remove invasive junipers and Russian olive trees to lower wildfire risk. Future steps—such as watering riparian pastures to boost cottonwood growth—will improve soils and wildlife habitat for the future.  Sheridan Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sheridan County is considering ending its nearly 30-year-old property tax deferral program — a program that no one has used — as county officials review its impact on local funds.  The Sheridan Press
