COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday, September 13, about 30 people attended a Sheridan Community Land Trust walking tour of Fort Mackenzie led by historian Thomas Hatch, who presented a slideshow and explained the fort's history and its 1922 transition to a VA Hospital. Hatch pointed out important sites such as the old jail and parade ground — key parts of Sheridan's heritage.  Sheridan Media
  • Construction on the Tongue River pathway nears as eight-year-old Daniel Scott said he is excited to bike and walk with his family (residents expect the route to open soon).  The Sheridan Press

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Wyoming dipped 2.3 cents per gallon over the past week, with the average price at $3.07 on Monday—GasBuddy.com surveyed 494 stations.  Wyoming Tribune Eagle

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sheridan High School’s We the People program will host a judged mock congressional debate tomorrow—an event for Constitution Day that lets students practice debate skills.  The Sheridan Press
  • The Johnson County School Board approved September employment recommendations today. Marissa Overton became Special Olympics Assistant Sponsor, Kimberly Wienke took a new High Needs Paraprofessional role at Meadowlark Elementary, and Michael File was named full-time custodian at Cloud Peak Elementary — while Anita Harbarger moved to a floater and transportation position with the district.  Sheridan Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Sheridan City Council approved on first reading an ordinance to rezone 31.8 acres on East 5th Street from an R-1 residential district to a B-1 business district—meant to allow multi-family residential use and future commercial developments. The ordinance will need two more council approvals before it takes effect while separate measures to deannex 3.64 acres and annex 4.15 acres near Kendrick Municipal Golf Course received second reading approval.  Sheridan Media
  • The City of Sheridan Landfill is accepting big game carcasses free during the hunting season to help stop Chronic Wasting Disease—hunters must dispose of any carcass removed from the kill site properly.  Sheridan Media

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Wyoming Department of Health will hold public meetings starting Friday in Newcastle, a virtual session on Sept 23, and a closing meeting on Oct 2 in Laramie to decide how to use up to $800 million from the Rural Health Transformation Program to boost rural hospitals and improve health care access. Critics say the funds will not meet all needs in Wyoming—residents are urged to attend and share their input.  Casper Star-Tribune
