BUSINESS NEWS

  • Inventors and entrepreneurs from Sheridan, Campbell, Crook, Weston, and Johnson counties can apply for the third annual Energy Capital Start-Up Challenge—offering funding, mentorship, and free advising—with a panel reviewing submissions and the top ten advancing to a semifinal round on Oct 9 and finalists pitching on Nov 11 at Gillette College.  Sheridan Media
  • The Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce welcomed new member Mountain Inn Bar, LLC with a ribbon cutting on Sept. 11 at 810 Main Street in Dayton. Kimberly and Brad Bell took over operations in June and now feature live music and dancing every Saturday — expanding the bar’s offerings of beers, spirits, mocktails and non-alcoholic beers.  Sheridan Media

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Brinton Museum is opening Shadow and Light on September 18 to show 46 Native American prints announced by Curatorial Director Jochen Wierich on September 11. The museum will hold a free printmaking demonstration on September 20 and an art talk on September 22—both events giving visitors more insight into Indigenous art.  Sheridan Media

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Wyoming Game and Fish Department reported an 11% rise in sage-grouse lek attendance this spring, with an average of 31 males per active lek and over 30,000 males seen on 86% of known leks—officials credited natural population cycles and timely spring moisture for the increase.  Sheridan Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Wyoming Low Income Energy Assistance Program saw a high response since it began its priority applications on September 2 and is now accepting only priority households—seniors 60 and over, families with children five and under, and individuals with disabilities—to help with winter heating costs. Other eligible households may apply from October 1 through April 30.  Sheridan Media
  • The Sheridan City Council will consider an ordinance Monday, September 15 to rezone the Elmwood property on the 900 block of West 5th Street from the R-1 Residence District to the B-1 Business District to allow multi-family and possible commercial use. City Planner Kelly Schroeder said the Planning Commission recommended approval—if the applicant updates the legal description and gets a licensed surveyor's stamp.  Sheridan Media
  • Forest System Road 33 at Crazy Woman Canyon reopened after a bridge replacement project done with the Federal Highway Administration and Johnson County — travelers are advised to proceed slowly as the narrow road has one-lane sections and remains seasonally closed from March 1 through June 20.  Sheridan Media
  • Sheridan County Commissioners ratified the FLAP MOA for the Red Grade Road Phase II project on September 12th. The agreement requires the county to manage preliminary and construction engineering, rights-of-way, and contracting—totaling an estimated cost of $13.8 million.  City of Sheridan
  • Sheridan City Council will consider a resolution to submit a $1.277 million Community Development Block Grant for the Hub on Smith’s parking lot and review a proposal to accept a $200,000 Safe Streets for All grant award at its Monday, September 15 meeting at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall—Council Chambers—and also discuss a water quality report from Water Treatment Superintendent Tom Manolis.  Sheridan Media
  • Sheridan residents will be able to dispose of up to one ton of household trash for free during Free Landfill Day on Sept. 27 from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.—Chief Gary Harnish warned that they will face longer waits because the roll‑off site is closed for reclamation work—and all vehicles must use the main pit.  Sheridan Media
