Good morning, Sheridan. Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 7th of September.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Construction has begun on the Tongue River Pathway linking Ranchester and Dayton — a public open-house with refreshments, prize drawings, and a ribbon cutting will be held Sunday, September 14 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at Ranchester Town Hall to celebrate the project funded by a TAP grant from WYDOT for a six-mile non-motorized route.  City of Sheridan

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On September 1, a 1965 Piper 828 carrying the Palmer family crashed in the Bighorn Mountains after departing the Sheridan County Airport with pilot Earl Palmer en route to Boise; 13-year-old Amelia Palmer died at the scene, while her parents remain hospitalized in Billings, MT and 11-year-old Aeron has been released, and the NTSB and FAA are investigating the crash (local agencies also aided the response).  City of Sheridan

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Department of Agriculture opened a 21-day public comment period on Aug. 29 for plans to end the 2001 Roadless Rule that protects nearly 60 million acres of forest land, and the period will close on Sept. 19. Local experts and lawmakers in Wyoming worry the change may harm wildlife and disrupt hunting in areas like Shoshone National Forest—areas that could see new roads and timber harvests.  Casper Star-Tribune
