- ➤ In 1914, Sheridan undersheriff William Veach was killed by friendly fire during a shootout—when deputy Frank Rue’s shot mistakenly struck him while chasing outlaw Earl Foree after his horse theft. Cowboy State Daily
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Sheridan filmmaker Stephen Howard Tucker finished his documentary 'Hole-in-the-Wall: The Ultimate Outlaw Fortress' about a remote valley with outlaw history and Native American heritage—filmed from May to October, it was produced with the Johnson County Tourism Association and has been submitted to film festivals for streaming consideration. This film highlights Wyoming voices telling stories from local history and culture. Casper Star-Tribune
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ State lawmakers met in Casper to review four draft bills on school discipline for next year's session; one draft (26LSO-0088) would let school workers use reasonable force and another would set up a Teacher Bill of Rights. Sheridan County School District #1 Superintendent Jeff Jones (expressing legal concerns) said the proposals might raise legal issues while a bill for teacher training grants was voted out. - ➤ Brian Mealor, the director of the Sheridan Research and Extension Center, was named interim director of the Wyoming Agricultural Experiment Station and will begin his role Tuesday, September 2—after Eric Webster retired on August 29. In his new position, Mealor will guide both local and statewide research efforts under the University of Wyoming’s agricultural initiative. Sheridan Media
- ➤ Sheridan City Council will consider ordinances to de-annex 3.64 acres near Kendrick Municipal Golf Course and annex 4.15 acres at their business meeting Tuesday night—meeting at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall—due to the Labor Day holiday. The council will also consider dissolving the Northeast Wyoming Growth Alliance and revoking the Standing Audit Committee resolution. Sheridan Media
