ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Tuesday, August 26th, a North Carolina climbing team near Cloud Peak noticed a small reflection on a backpack and notified the Sheriff’s Office — SAR teams later located Grant Gardner’s remains near the gear, and his body is now being taken home to his family.  City of Sheridan

CRIME NEWS

  • Sheridan County Sheriff Levi Dominguez and Undersheriff Lt. Doug Sanders warned parents that a sextortion scam is forcing children to send explicit images using mobile devices—officials stress that keeping an open dialogue about online safety can help prevent further abuse.  Sheridan Media
  • A 46-year-old Sheridan man named David Lopez was sentenced in Fourth Judicial District Court for distributing methamphetamine—he received a split sentence of 90 days in the county detention center followed by three years of probation with 27 days credit and must check in by 8:00 a.m. on Monday, September 1.  Sheridan Media

  • The Sheridan Community Land Trust is offering free walking tours that explore the history of Big Goose Creek with one tour on Tuesday, September 9 at The Hub on Smith from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and another on Tuesday, September 16 at the TRVCC in Dayton—led by Carrie Ida Edinger of Museum at the Bighorns.  Sheridan Media

  • Agriculture columnist Dennis Sun says beef prices keep rising with record sales affecting consumers and producers—he notes that tough choices on replacement heifers and low calf ratios add to the uncertainty.   • The Grove Learning Collective, a new private school, opened on Monday, Aug.25 in Sheridan + welcomed 15 students into its program.  The Sheridan Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin signed a document at the state Capitol with Gov. Mark Gordon and Sen. Cynthia Lummis to approve Wyoming’s coal ash program primacy—this approval starts a 60-day public comment period. Once the comment period ends, Wyoming will manage coal ash disposal—state officials say the move gives local regulators control to update rules faster.  Casper Star-Tribune

HEALTH NEWS

  • Johnson County Healthcare Center Chief-of-Staff Dr. Brian Darnell said former chief Dr. Lisa Mullen left on Wednesday—her last day, and the center hired Dr. Hagge who will start in November. He noted that interviews are ongoing to fill the walk-in clinic provider position so hospitalist shifts will be largely covered through next year.  City of Sheridan
