COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Sheridan Community Land Trust invites you to join retired geologist Steve Stresky for a free geology hike along the Bear Gulch East Trailhead at Red Grade Trails on Thursday, Aug. 21 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.—the 1.75- to 2-mile hike features stone steps and views of the Bighorn anticline and valley below. Attendees should meet at the parking lot and ride carefully if the lot is full as they explore a billion years of geologic history under summer skies.  Sheridan Media
  • Don King Days events will be held at Big Horn Equestrian Center on August 31 and September 1—local residents can look forward to the Labor Day weekend festivities.  The Sheridan Press

  • On Friday, Aug. 15, the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting to celebrate Advance Therapy’s new location at 345 S. Linden Avenue (phone: 307 683-0123). Advance Therapy is an outpatient clinic that offers physical and occupational therapy to Sheridan and nearby communities.  Sheridan Media

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Game and Fish Department warned pet owners against releasing goldfish into local waterways—these invasive fish can disrupt native wildlife. They found the goldfish in the May Park pond and urged residents to handle unwanted pets by following proper disposal guidelines.  Sheridan Media
  • Don Day of Cowboy State Daily said today that Wyoming’s 2025-2026 winter will arrive early and last longer than average, with colder temperatures and heavy snow based on ocean data and past winters—marking a return to a true Wyoming winter. Forecast details show that regions east and north of the Continental Divide will likely face harsher cold and more snow while areas to the west see milder conditions, and he is 70% confident in his analysis.  Cowboy State Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday night, the City Council approved an ordinance to amend article 2-VII of the City Code to update the Capital Equipment Reserve and General Fund Reserve. City Attorney Brad Thimmesch explained the changes—presented alongside reports from Habitat for Humanity Development and the County Coroner—and more details will be shared later.  Sheridan Media
