COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Big Horn Baseball Club has raised 71% of the $6.5 million goal to build a 33,000-square-foot indoor recreation and early learning center behind the Big Horn High School press box—designed to offer sports facilities and dedicated pre-school classrooms that will ease current space shortages. Organizers plan to break ground in winter or spring and finish the project in 2027.  City of Sheridan

  • Henry A. Coffeen Elementary was voted best school in the Bighorns—students start their day with a hug from Principal Paige Sanders—showing a warm tradition as the new school year begins.  The Sheridan Press
  • A women-only hunter education course is scheduled in Sheridan at The Hub on Smith Street on Aug. 22 from 6—9 p.m. and Aug. 23—24 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The Sheridan Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Johnson County commissioners approved the resolution allowing County Road and Bridge Supervisor Scott Pehringer to submit a CMAQ grant application for a 2026 dust mitigation project. The grant totals $418,516 and requires a 20% local match of $83,703, leaving a federal portion of $334,812.  City of Sheridan
  • Sheridan Police Department Chief Travis Koltiska and Lieutenant Dan Keller said that Sir Robert Peele’s nine 19th century policing principles still guide today’s preventive policing + they use these ideas to decide when to make arrests and monitor traffic in busy areas.  Sheridan Media
