COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Sheridan Community Land Trust and Science Kids are hosting the free Unplug: Mud, Bugs & Fish event on July 31 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the SCLT Big Goose Natural Area on 14 Lane Ln, where participants will use dip nets and turn over rocks to learn about aquatic insects, worms, and fish—experts will also show how to collect water quality samples to protect local waterways.  Sheridan Media
  • Today at the Johnson County Fair, sheep are featured with events including the Sheep Show in the Show Ring, Lamb Feed in the Community Building at 5 p.m., and a Sheep Lead Contest in the Show Ring at 7 p.m.—with Stock Dog Trials following in the Main Arena.  Sheridan Media

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Wyoming Historical Society announced its first Annual Conference, which will be held September 12th–14th at the Historic Sheridan Inn in Sheridan to support small museums and local history centers facing funding shortfalls. Tickets cost $150 each and go on sale August 1 as the event will feature tours, a keynote from Bill Yellowtail, breakout sessions, an awards luncheon, and a fundraising banquet aimed at raising over $10,000.  Sheridan Media
  • Chip King, operations director at the Museum at the Bighorns, said the museum opened with few exhibits after Phase 1 and work on Phase 2 will expand exhibits at the new downtown site—fundraising is boosted by a matching grant from the Roberts Family Foundation.  Sheridan Media
  • Concert pianist Tanner Jorden, a recent Brigham Young University graduate who will begin his master’s at Juilliard this fall, will perform with his wife, violinist Caroline Jorden, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6 at First Baptist Church in a free event organized by the Sheridan Arts Council.  Sheridan Media

  • Stacker compiled AAA data from July 28 showing Wyoming's regular gas price was $3.09, a decline of $0.03 or 1.0% from last week and 7.5% lower than a year ago—diesel reached $3.60 with a 0.7% rise this week.  Wyoming News Now

  • A flash flood on July 15 left downed branches, mud and silt at Little Tongue Ranch near Dayton, and the Conservation District is working with ranchers to clear debris and reduce fire risk—ensuring ongoing support for local safety.  Wyoming Tribune Eagle

FINANCE NEWS

  • An analysis found Wyoming’s middle-class families paid an effective tax rate of 10.4% with annual taxes of about $11,064 compared to a national rate of 13.6%. The report compared metro areas and showed states with no income tax offer lower tax bills+reduced income requirements for a modest standard of living.  Wyoming News Now

  • Governor Mark Gordon signed a proclamation on July 1 in Cheyenne that celebrated Daniels Fund's 25th anniversary of awarding over $113 million in grants and college scholarships—Sheridan native Jhett West said the event honored Bill Daniels' legacy and set a positive tone for the foundation's future impact.  Wyoming News Now
  • Wyoming Game and Fish released its annual law enforcement report that showed game wardens patrolled over 600,000 miles and took 3,102 actions in 2024. The report also detailed how wildfires that burned over 460,000 acres in Sheridan and fewer hunters affected big game seasons — with public tips leading to 28 citations and 16 warnings.  Sheridan Media
