- ➤ Sheridan County Library will join the CHAPS Tournament of Knights on July 26 by hosting a booth where families can design a coat of arms and purchase handmade crafts that support its programs — visitors can also join a brief crafting session at the Wyoming Room on Aug. 6 from 10 a.m. to noon. - ➤ Christine Dieterich, executive director of Habitat for Humanity of the Eastern Bighorns, was named to the U.S. Council of Habitat for Humanity International — she will serve on the Advocacy and Policy Committees to help guide the organization’s national work. This appointment is a full-circle moment for Dieterich, who became a Habitat homeowner in 2011 and has grown the Sheridan affiliate since 2015. Sheridan Media
- ➤ Verizon-Cellular Plus in Sheridan will host a free backpack giveaway filled with school supplies for local students to help them start the school year. The company said the backpacks will be available soon. The Sheridan Press

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Today, the Sheridan County Library System announced that its Summer Reading Challenge has broken last year’s records, library managers Cassie Stone & Zola Shockley said as the program now has significantly more participants than the over 550 registered in 2024. The contest encourages children 11 and younger to read 20 minutes a day, five days a week to help maintain their school-year gains. Sheridan Media
- ➤ Gov. Mark Gordon said on Thursday that Wyoming is taking control of its education system by shifting away from federal policies that do not fit local needs—he argued that local approaches like flexible class schedules and internships better serve students. Superintendent Megan Degenfelder added that states know their children best and can now make decisions that directly benefit their communities. Cowboy State Daily

- ➤ The city transferred one ambulance to Wyoming Regional EMS—while the city and county will fund a second unit under an updated agreement with WREMS. The Sheridan Press
- ➤ Sheridan County Sheriff Levi Dominguez appointed longtime deputy Doug Sanders as the new undersheriff after a rigorous evaluation process. Sanders, who brings 20 years of law enforcement experience — noted for reviving the K9 program — was promoted in June. Sheridan Media
- ➤ The Wyoming Department of Transportation updated the Buffalo Main Street Project on July 23, saying paving is complete on South Main Street from the Bypass Road to Interstate 25 and centerline tabs are in place for future striping. Traffic at the Cemetery Creek Culvert was shifted to the west on June 28 — contractors will apply an epoxy overlay to the Clear Creek Bridge with lane closures from July 28 through July 30 while pedestrians are urged to use sidewalks with caution.
