Good morning, Sheridan.

A new pilot project in Sheridan County will test virtual fencing for ranchers who use solar-paneled collars and transmission towers to track cattle and save on fence costs—three local landowners will report results over three years.

The program, supported by the Sheridan Community Land Trust and conservation groups, starts next month and aims to improve pasture management and protect natural habitats.

In May, rare earth minerals were discovered at Brook Mine northwest of Sheridan—Ramaco Resources, which bought the mine 15 years ago, said the find may supply up to 30% of the Defense Department’s magnetic needs and could reduce U.S. reliance on China.

Superintendent Charles Auzqui updated the district leadership in his July report, noting that Dr. Michael Hanson will continue to lead New West Alternative and Mr. John Corbin is set to begin as principal of Meadowlark Elementary (new school year).

Several other school and operations positions were confirmed.
