COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Sheridan County YMCA announced that its Pop-Up Camp will return next week at North Heights Park with free games, activities and meals for local children at 4:30 p.m. every Wednesday, following a break this week due to the WYO Rodeo.  Sheridan Media
  • During the week of the Sheridan WYO Rodeo, SHS FFA members from John B. Kendrick volunteered to support the event and gained new skills—tools they will use in future community projects.  The Sheridan Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On July 4, Wyoming Game and Fish reported a black bear on the North Sheridan Pathway near Canfield Street—personnel did not locate it that night. On July 5, wildlife managers immobilized a sub-adult female bear near a home with chickens on 12th Street and Taylor Avenue and relocated it to a remote area in the Bighorn Mountains on July 6.  Sheridan Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • BLM Wyoming State Office announced an oil and gas lease sale scheduled for Sept.16 that will offer 37 parcels covering 45,178 acres — the agency finished scoping in March and closed public comments in May. A 30-day protest period opened today and will end Aug.7 — leasing is the first step before operators submit permit applications for drilling.  Sheridan Media
  • The Sheridan County Commission approved an application for a $4,000 grant from the Wyoming Department of Transportation Aeronautics Division to support an event at the county airport later this summer. Airport Manager Robert Gill said the funds will pay for sanitary stations + hiring an air boss to manage air traffic, while the event is estimated to cost about $25,000 covered by sponsorships and fundraising.  Sheridan Media
  • On July 4 at 9:45 p.m., the Wyoming Game and Fish Department received a report of a black bear on North Sheridan Pathway near Canfield Street and safely relocated the animal + officials now monitor the area for further wildlife sightings.  The Sheridan Press
