COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Boy Scouts of Troop 117 will host the Dr. Bisbee Memorial Pancake Breakfast on Friday, July 11 from 6 to 9 a.m. at Grinnell Plaza—tickets cost $5 to $10 and funds will support leadership trips and outdoor adventures.  Sheridan Media
  • Local law enforcement urged Sheridan residents to follow firework safety guidelines on July Fourth, when 86% of Americans (nearly 300 million) celebrated record festivities this past holiday.  The Sheridan Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • On July 2, Fort Phil Kearny hosted the first summer program by the Native American Student Interpretive Rangers, where Abigail Zenner—who is Eastern Dakota—explained the tradition of winter counts and oral history. Dave McKee introduced the talk, and the event drew a good crowd that showed interest in Native American culture.  City of Sheridan
  • Sheridan now has a Natural History Museum at Sheridan College’s Mohns Center where visitors can see Paul the triceratops — Wyoming’s state dinosaur — along with real dinosaur bones, fossils, minerals, and a lab for cleaning bones. Curators said the museum will host a dig on July 12-13 to uncover more local dinosaur history.  Sheridan Media
  • Erin Butler and Ken Thorpe invited the community to join the upcoming Seventh Annual Untapped Homebrew Festival on Brundage Street between Main and Brooks, where 35 homebrewed beers, live music including the Big Horn Alphorns, brew contests awarding cash prizes and a limited tap run at Black Tooth Brewing, and barbecue provided by Rollin’ Smoke will be featured — tickets cost $25 and are available at the WYO Theater box office or online.  Sheridan Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sheridan High School SkillsUSA students traveled to Atlanta in late June to compete in the national SkillsUSA Championships—facing off against peers from across the country.  The Sheridan Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On July 4, the Sheridan County commission approved a Notice of Intent to vacate County Road 85—also known as Rapid Creek Road—after county engineer Ken Muller said the road accesses only private lands. The decision moves forward the plan to clear public responsibility for the roadway.  City of Sheridan

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Icon Global has listed the historic P.K. Ranch—now known as the Cato Ranch on Soldier Creek—as coming soon for sale with a list price to be announced in the next 30 days. The 7,447-acre ranch is a working Black Angus operation that once hosted a major 1928 rodeo which led to the Sheridan WYO Rodeo.  Cowboy State Daily
