  • Kindness Ranch in Hartville gives former research animals a new start as Executive Director John Ramer works with laboratories to transfer dogs, cats, and other species to safety—22 dogs were rescued on June 8 and 47 beagles plus 20 more are scheduled to arrive later this year. This nonprofit focuses on building strong ties with labs while providing a caring home for the animals.  Cowboy State Daily
  • Spalding the cat arrived in Gillette three months ago with severe injuries including a massive abscess that took half his face—he has now fully recovered after intensive treatment at Second Chance Sheridan and is ready for adoption. Officials say the 2-year-old, once nearly hypothermic and in critical condition, will do best in a quiet home as he starts his new life.  Cowboy State Daily

  • Sheridan College’s Broadway Musical Theater Intensive will culminate in three performances of WORKING, A Musical—its third annual event that showcases student talent.  The Sheridan Press

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A 10-year study by the University of Idaho shows low to moderate cattle grazing does not hurt sage grouse nest success—indicating that cows and the birds can coexist on shared public lands.   • Wyoming lawmakers are split on a Senate bill that may require selling up to 0.75% of federal lands for housing and community needs—some push for more local control while others worry the move could hurt public access.  Cowboy State Daily
  • City officials approved a five-year operating agreement with the Sheridan Recreation District that will take effect July 1 — it removes Black Tooth Park from the list of maintained areas and adds updated asset management standards per the 2019 master plan. This move continues a long history of agreements with the district that began in 1974.  Sheridan Media

  • Sheridan Memorial Hospital is recruiting local members for its new patient and family advisory council called VOICE—Voicing Opportunities for Improvement, Collaboration and Engagement to gather feedback on care.
