CULTURE NEWS

  • Sheridan native Sean Patrick Higgins hosted a ribbon cutting on May 16 for his new 47-acre film studio in Missoula— a facility with five premium sound stages and production offices— to take advantage of Montana tax incentives. The studio will produce its first film, 'St. George,' this fall while creating over 400 local jobs.  Cowboy State Daily
  • The historic Sheridan Inn nearly collapsed more than 20 years ago — cracks in its walls revealed severe structural damage that required immediate repair. Edre Maier led a $6 million project with specialist help and later secured private investment to complete modern upgrades, earning her a preservation award for her long-time efforts to save the building.  Cowboy State Daily

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Ag columnist Dennis Sun said dairy prices for milk, butter and cheese are expected to rise while shortages are not predicted — he noted that farmers are keeping cows longer and shifting breeding practices amid low dairy cow replacements and moves to rural areas.  Cowboy State Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At a recent business meeting, City of Sheridan Fleet and Administrative Coordinator Heather Czaplinski provided an equipment update to Council and Mayor Rich Bridger in response to Councilman Steve Brantz's question—she said the City ordered 7,100 tags for 16 divisions at a cost of $5,600—and noted the fleet will have an annual inventory.  Sheridan Media
  • Sheridan County Airport held an emergency drill yesterday to simulate a commercial plane crash and test the response of fire, police, TSA, and other teams—airport manager Robert Gill said 34 mock victims were used to meet FAA requirements. Volunteers practiced handling hazardous materials and transporting injured victims and later discussed what worked and what could be improved.  Sheridan Media

  • The Sheridan County Housing Land Trust said the first three homes in Weston Village are complete and will host an open house at 1295 Edelman Drive on Wednesday, June 11 at 6 pm — the event will offer drinks and light refreshments for those attending.
