COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At the Memorial Day Ceremony last Monday at Sheridan Cemetery, Ginny Rieger of Cloud Peak Ballooning spoke about her hot air balloon 'Hot and Bothered.' Rieger, who learned to fly in Riverton and moved to Sheridan in 2014, said the balloon is powered by liquid propane to lift riders in a scenic basket over town.  Sheridan Media
  • The Hub on Smith has seen rising use as more local seniors attend its programs + director Keri McMeans is keeping a close eye on shaky funding sources. The need for services is expected to grow in the coming months.  Sheridan Media
  • The Wyoming Game and Fish Department will allow anglers to fish without a license on June 7 for Free Fishing Day, while all other fishing rules remain in effect—excluding Yellowstone and Wind River Reservation.  Sheridan Media

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Later this week, Sheridan County Weed and Pest will begin aerial fogging of Vectobac 12AS over large, hard-to-reach waters to reduce mosquito larvae. The natural bacteria (Bti) will stop the larvae from growing and will not harm fish or pollinators.  Sheridan Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • WYDOT plans to replace its outdated Revenue Information System with a modern MAX system called oneWYO that will allow drivers to renew licenses, order records, and schedule appointments online. The new system is set to debut this summer and cost about $20 million — officials say it will boost customer service and employee efficiency.  Wyoming News Now
  • On Monday, the city council approved a first reading of an ordinance that rezones nine properties on Canfield Street, Kooi Street and North Main Street — it will need two more votes before it takes effect. The council also approved a utility easement vacation request from Seven Pillars Resources at 130 West Kooi Street.  Sheridan Media
