  • Haruka Takaku, the new Japan Outreach Initiative Coordinator for the Heart Mountain Wyoming Foundation, arrived last August from Tokyo and quickly learned to drive in tough Wyoming winters while noticing the local love for big trucks. She is planning summer workshops like mochi and origami to share Japanese culture and build ties between Wyoming and Japan—she said the friendly pace here makes life very different.  Cowboy State Daily

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sheridan's Cowboy Virtual Academy offers a flexible online public school program so that kids can complete coursework anytime—10-year-old Kenzley Sims and her 9-year-old brother are enrolled to focus on rodeo and ranch chores while following a personalized schedule. The program is led by certified Wyoming teachers who help students learn asynchronously, allowing families to travel for events and manage daily chores.  Cowboy State Daily
  • At the Education Committee this week, Paul Pine's mother said a lack of proper help may have led to her son's suicide as a fifth grader at Carpenter Elementary in Laramie County — spurring lawmakers to consider state-led training on dyslexia and a change in school funding.  Cowboy State Daily
  • On Saturday, May 31, Tongue River High School held its graduation ceremony where Principal Wade Sanford said the graduates were ready for the next step and Senior Paxten Aksamit thanked teachers, staff+parents in her welcome speech.
