CULTURE NEWS

  • The Bighorn Arts Collective announced plans Friday for its second annual festival, which will take place Saturday, August 9, from 12:30 to 6:30 pm at Whitney Commons in Sheridan. The free, family-friendly event will feature live music, hands-on arts activities, writing workshops, an artisan village and food trucks, and will be headlined by Damn Tall Buildings—a Brooklyn-based trio that blends bluegrass, Americana and swing.  Sheridan Media
  • Local historian Judy Slack said that in the 1890s miners built Bald Mountain City on a gold rush scam after small flakes of gold were found — when no real gold was discovered, people left the town and it was abandoned by 1896. Today, visitors can see the remains of old cabins and rock foundations on the mountain, though most artifacts have been lost.  Casper Star-Tribune
