COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce invites local Grades 1 through 6 students to submit designs for the 2025 Christmas Stroll Button Design Contest—which will judge entries on the theme 30 Years of Strolling—by June 6, with the winning design set to earn $100 in Chamber Bucks and appear on event buttons. Entry forms are available at elementary schools, the Chamber office, Kid Curious and online, and the Christmas Stroll will be held on Nov. 28.  Sheridan Media

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On May 25th, a Big Horn Volunteer Firefighter fell through a floor on Brinton Road while fighting a structure fire and emergency units responded promptly; he was taken to Sheridan Memorial Hospital and is recovering well.  Sheridan Media

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Bighorn Arts Collective announced the lineup for the second annual Collective Arts Festival at Whitney Commons in Sheridan, which will take place on August 9 from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. Families will enjoy live music, arts activities, workshops, and an artisan village with food trucks while headliner Damn Tall Buildings is set to perform at 5 p.m.  Sheridan Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sheridan County School District No. 2 was honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation by the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation on May 28th for its strong music program. This is the district’s sixth honor and the fourth in a row — a sign of its ongoing commitment to quality music education.  City of Sheridan
  • Sheridan County School District 3 approved a contract for staff firearms training. The training aims to boost school safety—details on dates and program scope are pending—and will follow state guidelines.  The Sheridan Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sheridan County Emergency Management will conduct a mass casualty exercise on June 7 at Sheridan County Airport to test emergency and law enforcement responders in a simulated CRJ200 plane crash scenario. The nine-month plan by Jesse Ludikhuize and Robert Gill will involve simulating 53 casualties — the effort still needs extra volunteers.  Sheridan Media
  • Wyoming Game and Fish urges hunters to submit online applications for many fall hunts by June 2 before midnight MDT using the Department website—residents and nonresidents alike can apply for elk, deer and antelope hunts. Computer stations are available at regional offices and Cheyenne Headquarters for those who need help.  Sheridan Media
  • Sheridan City's Utilities Director Dan Roberts said that staff recommend a new professional services agreement with Trihydro Corporation for $385,567 to provide landfill environmental monitoring for three years; the City Council will consider the proposal at its June 2 meeting — this move is needed to meet regulatory requirements as the current contract ends on June 30.  Sheridan Media
