COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Red Grade Road construction will begin the week of June 15, temporarily closing the Let ‘em Roll section of the trails from 8 am to 12 noon and 1 pm to 6 pm for 2 to 3 weeks. Equipment staging starts May 25 and surveying will begin early June.  Sheridan Media
  • The city has begun plans to renovate Sheltered Acres Park + addressing aging equipment and a cracked tennis court missing its net while officials prepare further details on the project.  The Sheridan Press
  • The 42nd Annual Lake DeSmet Fishing Derby runs Memorial Day Weekend * Sat, Sun, and Mon. Organized by the Buffalo Lions Club, the event will award over $50,000 in cash and prizes, and tickets cost $15 per day or $40 for all three days, available in Buffalo and local retailers.  Sheridan Media

  • A Sheridan resident held a garage sale starting at 7:30 a.m. on a recent Saturday to clear out baby gear and household items, later posting high-ticket items on Facebook Marketplace (yielding over $500 in revenue and a potential tax break).  Wyoming News Now

CULTURE NEWS

  • Fort Phil Kearny will host a Cheyenne Welcome Ceremony on Saturday, May 23 at 6 p.m. The event features Northern Cheyenne speakers and drumming by the Last Bear Drum Group with an invocation that should not be recorded — attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.  Sheridan Media
  • Sheridan Community Land Trust will host a 150th-anniversary event for the Battle of the Rosebud on Wednesday, June 17 at Rosebud Battlefield State Park. The daylong celebration (carpool from The Hub on Smith at 8:30–8:45 a.m.) will include cultural demonstrations, horseback riding, and a community meal.  Sheridan Media

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Unemployment in Sheridan and Johnson counties dropped in March with seasonal job gains; Sheridan’s rate went from 4.0% to 3.5% and Johnson’s fell from 4.0% to 3.4%. The Wyoming Department of Workforce Services said the decline reflects local employment trends.  Sheridan Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lawmakers approved a nearly $4 billion school funding package that lifts K–12 spending 8.6% and teacher salaries 20.7%, though critics warn school activity funds may fall from $46.3 to $42.4 million as declining enrollment prompts a new formula — further reviews are expected.  Cowboy State Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sheridan County commissioners approved an MOU with the Wyoming Department of Health (Public Health Division) on May 21 to provide nursing, home visitations and Maternal and Child Health Services; the agreement will run from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2028 with payments capped at $139,625.  City of Sheridan
  • Sheridan County Emergency Management Coordinator Jesse Ludikhuize warned residents in the Elk Fire burn scar area to prepare for possible debris flows from spring storms — he advised having evacuation plans ready and signing up for Alert Sense for local alerts.  Sheridan Media

  • Sheridan County Detention Center launched Wyoming’s first Medication Assisted Treatment program today to help detainees manage addiction through structured medical care.  Wyoming Tribune Eagle

  • The Sheridan Lady Broncs lost 2-1 in overtime yesterday at Campbell County High School in Gillette when they played the Jackson Lady Broncs in the Class 4A State Tournament (overtime included two 10-minute periods).  Sheridan Media
  • Sheridan Tactical Paintball has launched early access with four large fields and a special training area for First Responders, featuring realistic setups such as vehicle rollovers & airplane crash sites.
