EDUCATION NEWS

  • On May 21, 2025, Sheridan County Commissioners awarded three scholarships to graduating high school students Aubrey Butler, Levi Mendenhall and McKenna Smith—each scholarship is valued at $1,000 split into two $500 semesters for use at the University of Wyoming or Wyoming Community Colleges.  City of Sheridan

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Sheridan County has received more than 10 inches of rain so far in 2025, nearing the 15-inch yearly average — local officials discussed a flooding plan during a recent meeting.  The Sheridan Press
  • Sheridan Community Land Trust Director of Conservation John Graves is inviting volunteers to help install wildlife friendly fencing—set to begin at 8 a.m. and end at noon on Saturday, May 31—at Big Goose Natural Area to protect deer habitat and ranch operations. The project is supported by Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s Outdoor Fund and aims to keep the area open and safe for wildlife and local ranching.  Sheridan Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today the Sheridan Police Department joined the Click It or Ticket campaign as Chief Travis Koltiska and Captain Tom Ringley appeared on Public Pulse to talk about seat belt use—officers will intensify education and enforcement as traffic and visitors are expected to rise for Memorial Day weekend.  Sheridan Media
  • The Wyoming Department of Transportation will open U.S. 14A today by noon, weather permitting, after crews cleared up to eight feet of snow along this 22-mile mountain road for Memorial Day travel. Motorists are advised to stick to posted speed limits (and avoid non-designated forest service roads) for a safe drive.  Sheridan Media
  • Sheridan County’s portion of Red Grade Road—from the snowmobile turnouts west to the intersection of Dome Lake Road—is now fully open to wheeled vehicles, as the Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday. County Road and Bridge crews cleared the road since April, and motorists should follow Forest Service rules and use high-clearance or four-wheel-drive vehicles where needed.  Sheridan Media
  • Sheridan County Commissioners approved a temporary permit extension for Unified Taylor Quarry owned by Taylor Investments, LLC after the Public Works Staff recommended it. The extension will begin June 2 and last up to six months until the BOCC approves a new permit — Commissioner Nick Siddle voted against.  Sheridan Media

HEALTH NEWS

  • Healthcare experts warned during a webinar that proposed Medicaid cuts could force nursing homes to close and raise costs for older adults in Wyoming—especially in rural areas. They added that if premium tax credits are not renewed, insurance premiums will jump for many residents.  Casper Star-Tribune

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Sheridan City Council approved on Monday night a request to subdivide property on Dovetail Lane into 39 lots — 37 single-family lots ranging from 8,000 to 15,000 square feet and two designated for future commercial and mixed-use development, with plans to extend Dovetail Lane, add Timberland Drive, and create a cul-de-sac called Kearny Court.  City of Sheridan
