EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Tuesday, May 12 in Big Horn, the SCSD#1 Board recognized the BHHS Speech and Debate Team as state champions while honoring top performers including senior Emmie Ramsbur (in her final year) and student representatives, and the board approved classified staff renewals, salary schedules and a bid for generator installation.  Sheridan Media
  • On Wednesday (May 13), the Sheridan County School District No. 3 board voted 3-2 to end a superintendent's contracts, prompting two board members to resign immediately over the decision. Superintendent Chase Christensen said he will continue supporting public education and is exploring further public service roles.  Cowboy State Daily
  • On May 14, 2026, the Johnson County School Board voted to renew at-will staff for the 2026-27 school year & issue letters confirming their return.  City of Sheridan

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Hungry bears have been seen near residential areas in Sheridan and Johnson counties, including near Story and Big Horn, as spring awakens them from hibernation; the Wyoming Game — Fish Department asks residents to report any sightings immediately.  Sheridan Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Sheridan is warning residents and developers about a scam that uses fake invoices linked to Planning and Zoning and Board of Adjustment applications. Kaylin McKinley-Rizzotto urged people to report any suspicious wire transfer requests by calling the city.  Sheridan Media

HEALTH NEWS

  • Sheridan Memorial Hospital will move its TCU (Transitional Care Unit) to the Green House campus in early June, where patients will continue to receive skilled nursing, rehabilitation, therapy and support services in private rooms that promote recovery and comfort.
