  • Clearmont Day Celebration, over 100 years old, is set for June 28 and will offer craft projects for kids, a corn hole tournament, chicken poop bingo game, antique car displays on New York Avenue, and free hamburgers served at noon—attendees are asked to bring a side dish while a follow-up planning meeting is scheduled on June 9 at 7 p.m. at the Clearmont Community Center.  Sheridan Media

  • The Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce welcomed new member Anova Med Spa with a ribbon cutting on May 9 at 1415 N. Main St., where the spa offers holistic treatments driven by science + rooted in faith. Owners Cheyloh Bluemel and Beck Bridger Dahmke introduced the community to their evidence-based services at the event.  City of Sheridan

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rose Hill of Sheridan, a former Wyoming Poet Laureate, received an honorable mention in the annual members-only WyoPoets contest — a notable achievement.  The Sheridan Press
  • The High School Art Gala is on display at SAGE Community Arts showing student work across various mediums from pen and ink to photography — the exhibition runs from May 6 until May 24 and an artist reception is set for 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. tomorrow.  Sheridan Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sheridan College announced the Bighorn Mountain Advantage that lets out-of-state students pay in-state tuition and lowers on-campus housing costs for full- and part-time students. Assistant Vice President of Student Affairs Micah Olsen said the new program has already boosted recruiting numbers (a clear shift from the tuition hikes seen at other schools).  Sheridan Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Wyoming’s interim Judiciary Committee will start its review on May 20 at Eastern Wyoming College to consider linking sex books in libraries to state obscenity laws — a top priority amid controversy over protecting children and maintaining local control. Lawmakers will debate how to update the rules while balancing community concerns and library autonomy.  Cowboy State Daily
  • City council is set to vote on a new firefighter contract that offers SFR’s firefighters and leadership a 1.75% pay increase—meeting details are pending—and the decision may impact wage structures within the department.  The Sheridan Press
  • Sheridan County Commissioners appointed three appraisers to review the establishment of Penrose County Road—County Engineer Ken Muller explained the need for the review. One resident hoped the appraisers knew the local real estate market—another urged that landowners work with the county to shape the road's future.  Sheridan Media
