YMCA executive Director Liz Cassiday invites residents to join the free pancake breakfast that marks the last community fellowship event before fall; the gathering will be held at The Outpost, 426 W Alger St + continue a cherished local tradition.

On May 8, SCSD#1 hosted its teacher awards ceremony during teacher appreciation week, honoring retirees and educators; Tina Melin was named Teacher of the Year and Dr. Jamie Clifford received the District Apple Award (with four times more nominations), while an honorary award remembered bus driver Steve Jones.

Sheridan High School students in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes offered free donuts on National Day of Prayer Thursday to anyone who wrote a prayer, and gathered at 7:50 a.m. by the flagpole to pray.

This event sparked a calm, shared moment at school.

Thirty-nine music students performed at the Arvada-Clearmont School K-12 Spring Concert on Thursday, May 7.

The event featured patriotic songs and concluded with awards, an art show, and an ice-cream social, said music teacher Kirsten Johnson.

Science Kids and the Sheridan Community Land Trust will host Unplug: Birds of the SCLT Big Goose Natural Area on Wednesday, May 13 from 5 to 6 p.m. at 14 Lane Ln — a free event where Dr. Julie Rieder will help participants spot and learn to identify migrating birds.

Sheridan County Weed and Pest held a meeting on leafy spurge control on Wednesday, May 6 at Clearmont Fire Hall to explain free consultations, chemical treatments, and biological options like beetles and goat grazing.

The program, funded by property taxes, also featured test plots and equipment rentals.

Sheridan Police Chief Travis Koltiska read a proclamation at City Council designating May 10 to May 16 as Police Appreciation Week and May 15 as Peace Officers’ Memorial Day.

The department will send two officers to national memorial events honoring fallen officers.

Sheridan Memorial Hospital is exploring a change to a critical access designation to secure 101% cost reimbursement and allow doctors more time with patients.

The hospital applied for the transition earlier this year and approval could take up to one year.
