COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Sheridan invites residents to join the annual Cleanup and Trees for Trash event on Saturday, May 2 at local parks where volunteers remove litter and offer free landfill disposal for eligible items. City Councilman Greg Luhman said the event will feature a limited tree species.  City of Sheridan
  • The Sheridan library system wrapped up construction at three branches (Story, Clearmont, Tongue River) and continues renovations at the Fulmer Branch to upgrade services for visitors.  The Sheridan Press

CULTURE NEWS

  • SAGE Community Arts will host its annual SOIREE! gala at the WYO Theater (6 p.m. Friday, May 2) featuring cocktail tastings, live music, art displays, and a paddle raise to support local programs. Board members Michelle Forster and Erin Butler previewed the event on Public Pulse.  City of Sheridan
  • The Museum at the Bighorns announced free admission through August 31 with support from the Homer A. and Mildred S. Scott Foundation; the museum will feature rotating exhibits and community programs celebrating local history (including photography and democracy-themed displays) at 171 N. Main St.  Sheridan Media
  • On April 28, the Alliance for Historic Wyoming announced that the Sheridan Community Land Trust won the Excellence in Historic Preservation award for securing a historic easement on the 1898 Stone House. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Buffalo High School Principal Jake Evans updated the school board on plans for the new Sheridan College campus (built on an 11-acre site) that will offer flexible learning spaces and expand in the future, with classes set to begin in September 2028.  Sheridan Media
  • The Sheridan Recreation District is launching summer camps for ages 6 to 12 starting June 8 through Aug. 7. Some sessions (Animal Adventures and rock climbing camps with Bighorn Mountain Guides) are already full, so parents should register soon at the SRD office in Thorne-Rider Park or by phone.  Sheridan Media

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • In February, a sold-out Fly Fishing Film Tour at the WYO Theater raised $12,672.25 for the Sheridan Community Land Trust to restore Big Goose Natural Area; willow plantings began this spring. Local businesses (including Fly Shop of the Bighorns) supported the effort.  Sheridan Media
  • Game and Fish advises local residents to practice stewardship by following water-saving tips as dry habitat conditions are expected this summer. Officials recommend measures to protect natural resources — steps that support the community during challenging dry periods.  The Sheridan Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. Small Business Administration announced low interest federal disaster loans for small businesses & private nonprofits in Sheridan and other Wyoming counties impacted by drought starting Feb. 17. Applicants must submit online by Dec. 21 to cover working capital needs.  City of Sheridan
  • The Wyoming Game and Fish Department will hold a public meeting on proposed regulation changes at 5 p.m. Monday, May 11, at its Sheridan Regional Office (comments may be submitted online, in person, or by mail until 5 p.m. June 10).  Sheridan Media

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hannah Edwards and Sue Johnson at the local shelter advised pet owners to guard against ticks using preventive products (shampoos, collars, sprays, and spot-on treatments) after community reports and spring surveys noted tick activity. They recommend consulting veterinarians and monitoring pets for symptoms.  City of Sheridan

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Sheridan High Sports team won the donkey ball championship on Tuesday (Apr. 28) by finishing 20-12 against the John B. Kendrick FFA Chapter team, raising funds for the chapter. Standout pole vaulter Cole Bunting scored key points as the event featured a unique contest.  Sheridan Media
