COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Kiwanis Club of Sheridan is collecting donations and recruiting volunteers to support Project Graduation for Sheridan High School students + the effort is aimed at ensuring a safe and timely celebration for graduates.  The Sheridan Press

CRIME NEWS

  • Four individuals (Edwin Lopez, Mauro Solorzano, Cesar Hernandez, and Luis Hernandez) were arrested and arraigned in Sheridan County Circuit Court on Thursday after a traffic stop led authorities to place them on ICE holds for drug-related charges.  The Sheridan Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Science Kids is a nonprofit based in Sheridan that will offer summer classes where children learn science by exploring outdoors and has added classes for kids 12-14 along with those for ages 6-8 and 9-11. Dr. Julie Rieder said the hands-on courses—covering Solar Science, Art and Birding, Environmental Chemistry and a dinosaur quarry dig—will be taught by experts in both Sheridan and Buffalo.  Sheridan Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On April 24, U.S. Rep Harriet Hageman visited the Sheridan VA—after receiving multiple complaints from veterans—to review delays in referrals and specialty care. She held a two-hour roundtable discussion with local staff and said she plans follow-up meetings to ensure improved veteran care.  Cowboy State Daily
  • Governor Mark Gordon announced nearly $50 million in state-backed grants to restore wildfire-damaged land (focusing on reducing invasive grasses) and a multi-agency committee will review projects with awards expected mid-May. The funds are allocated to help both state and private lands recover from wildfire impacts.  City of Sheridan
  • Congresswoman Harriet Hageman and her team visited the Sheridan Veterans' Affairs Medical Center to review veteran care and facility conditions after receiving local reports of issues. She held a town hall meeting on April 25 at Tongue River Valley Community Center to discuss mental health services, claims processing and plans for facility improvements.  Sheridan Media
