COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lucien Simurdak, a sixth grader at Sheridan Junior High and the Hub’s youngest volunteer, connects with local seniors today. His grandmother also works with seniors — strengthening family ties and community support.  The Sheridan Press

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sheridan County youth in second through fifth grades will audition today from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. for the upcoming spring musical Oliver Jr., while those in sixth through ninth grades will audition Saturday, April 26, at the WYO Theater as part of the WYO PLAY program (in partnership with Tandem Productions).  Sheridan Media
  • Youth Services Manager Zola Shockley announced on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse that the library system will launch two new pilot programs to promote reading readiness for young children. One program offers Early Reader Packs for parents to borrow multiple books—aiming to support learning skills for children ages 4 to 7.  Sheridan Media

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Governor Mark Gordon announced nearly $50 million in state grants will fund wildfire restoration projects to control invasive grasses and rebuild rangelands. Applications received since mid-March will be reviewed by a multi-agency committee and awards are expected to be announced mid-May—supporting both state and private land restoration.  Sheridan Media

  • Assessor Paul Fall told listeners on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to check their 2025 Notice of Assessment for tax breaks—like a 25% break on a home's first $1 million, a 4% cap on residential values, a special offer for long-term owners 65 or older, and extra help for veterans—and to call his office at 307-674-2535 if these do not appear.  Sheridan Media
  • At a recent City Council meeting, City Planner Kelly Schroeder reviewed the Gruen and Gruen Housing Needs Assessment findings that detail Sheridan’s current housing situation—officials are now evaluating whether the city is meeting the report's recommendations.  Sheridan Media
  • At a recent meeting, Sheridan resident Craig Dinatly raised concerns over government spending and urged the commission to reexamine its funding process—comparing it to a friend who only borrows when needed. Commission Chairman Lonnie Wright thanked him for his input.  Sheridan Media
