COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Tuesday, April 22, SCSD#3 held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Arvada-Clearmont School greenhouse where community members toured the facility and saw vegetables and flowers planted by students. They learned that produce will be sold and many plants will be moved outside after the frost—ensuring the greenhouse benefits both hands-on learning and the school lunch program.  Sheridan Media
  • The Sheridan County Library System is preparing for a busy summer and will add new adult programs so parents and guardians can learn along with children. Youth Services Manager Zola Shockley announced the plans on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse after a record number of readers joined last summer’s Summer Reading Challenge — the library will host more programs to keep everyone engaged.  Sheridan Media

CULTURE NEWS

  • Jentel Presents will host its next set of artist residents on April 29—a future event that will display fresh work from the selected artists.  The Sheridan Press

ECONOMY NEWS

  • In March, the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services said that Sheridan County’s unemployment rate dropped from 3.9% to 3.8% while Johnson County’s rate fell from 3.4% to 3.1%—figures that show a steady improvement. The state’s overall rate declined from 3.5% in February to 3.4%—compared with 2.9% last March.  Sheridan Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Valor Academy, a faith-based junior and senior high school in Sheridan, is fundraising for its school + launching community projects to aid residents. The initiative supports school improvements + benefits local families through hands-on projects.  The Sheridan Press

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Clearmont Town Council met on April 21 and discussed the ongoing work on Well #3, with Mayor Schock scheduling a public meeting on June 30 at 6 p.m.—the council also addressed utility bills, turkey hunting rules, liquor license costs, and Councilwoman Switzer’s resignation. The next council meeting is set for May 19 at 6 p.m.  City of Sheridan
  • Jess Johnson, Government Affairs Director for the Wyoming Wildlife Federation, spoke on Public Pulse to say that selling federal public lands to help pay for tax cuts is a dangerous idea — she urged the public to tell the Wyoming delegation what they think since conservation groups warn that once these lands are sold, they are gone.  Sheridan Media
