  • Volunteers of America of the Northern Rockies is hosting Empty Bowl Sheridan at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds on Thursday, April 24 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Residents will enjoy a variety of soups — along with live music and games for kids, while funds raised support crucial programs in South Dakota.  Sheridan Media
  • On April 21, Rooted in Wyoming announced it is looking for an AmeriCorps VISTA Volunteer Program Developer to create volunteer programs for school gardens and community food projects in Sheridan—this role will work with local families and partners to boost food security while offering health benefits, living expenses, and an education award.  Sheridan Media

CRIME NEWS

  • Sheridan resident Cody McCalla, 34, was sentenced for involuntary manslaughter on Monday after pleading no contest to punching Patrick Mudd during a parking dispute at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds—he received a 4 to 6-year prison term with credit for four days served and was ordered to pay $275 in court costs and $4,063 in restitution.  Sheridan Media

  • On April 19, Ucross hosted a reception for curator Sean Chandler and the artists whose work is featured in The Language of the Land exhibit at the Ucross Art Gallery — the show explores connections between land, identity and storytelling through photography, mixed media and poetry. ECONOMY NEWS

  • Manufacturing Works — a not-for-profit that helps Wyoming manufacturers — received notice that NIST will continue federal funding through the end of the fiscal year, preserving about $700,000 for its programs. Center Director Rocky Case said the group will shift to a long-term strategy to support small and medium manufacturers.  Sheridan Media

  • Sheridan County Clerk and Budget Officer Eda Schunk-Thompson announced upcoming budget session dates during a recent county commission meeting, and the sessions will let elected officials and department heads discuss requested budgets with the commission — a copy of the proposed budget will be available for public viewing in the Clerk's Office after the meetings.  Sheridan Media

  • Orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Jory Wasserburger—who grew up in Gillette and was guided by his mother to a career in medicine—is honored to serve Sheridan through work with Sheridan Orthopaedic Associates and its new partnership with Sheridan Memorial Hospital.
