COMMUNITY NEWS

  • City of Sheridan parks crews have begun cleaning and prepping all local greenspaces for summer. Director Steve Gage said teams are removing winter debris, testing irrigation systems, and checking playground safety (including early pest treatments) to ensure parks are ready for increased use.  Sheridan Media
  • AARP Fraud Prevention Month will hold free workshops in Sheridan to help residents learn to spot scams and protect their finances — organizers say the events offer practical tips for safeguarding families.  The Sheridan Press
  • The Sheridan Community Land Trust will host a tour of the Big Goose Natural Area on Saturday, Apr. 18 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at 14 Lane Ln, exploring history and conservation, while its silent auction of art and maps runs online until Apr. 15 at 5:00 p.m. (pets on-leash).  Sheridan Media

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Sheridan Community Land Trust hosted its SCLT Explore History program on Wednesday, April 8 — featuring historian Cynde Georgen’s account of early local violent events that drew a large crowd — and will return on Tuesday, April 21 at TRVCC in Dayton to discuss new historical projects.  Sheridan Media
  • Sheridan College’s Arts program presents a free concert by the Sheridan College Symphony Orchestra at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Apr. 12 at Kinnison Hall at the Whitney Center for the Arts, featuring works by Wagner + Mendelssohn + John Williams and the film score from Jurassic Park.  City of Sheridan

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sixteen Sheridan County School District 1 students became national qualifiers after competing at the Wyoming Future Leaders of America state leadership conference in Laramie. FBLA helped them build essential life skills (a key part of the program).  The Sheridan Press
  • WYO PLAY launches Sheridan Cadets, a new youth drumline summer camp, with beginner-friendly auditions held today from 6 to 7 p.m. and tomorrow from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the WYO Theater (Tandem Rehearsal Room) for limited spots.  City of Sheridan
  • Families in Sheridan are invited to join the free educational event Unplug Herons at Home on Thursday, Apr. 23 from 5 to 6 p.m. at Sportsman's Warehouse. Ecologist Dr. Julie Rieder will guide participants in learning about herons and Wyoming's ecosystems.  Sheridan Media

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Wyoming Game and Fish Dept reminds Sheridan boaters that aquatic invasive species prevention is a top priority as the boating season begins. The local inspection station is open Thursdays through Sundays and will soon operate daily for watercraft inspected from March 1+Nov. 30.  City of Sheridan
  • In 2023 the County Conservation District and city received a grant for a watershed assessment of Hume Draw. The project was completed in 2024 and City Parks Director Steve Gage presented key improvement recommendations to the council and Mayor Bridger while discussing future funding.  City of Sheridan

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Wyoming Game and Fish clarified that all watercraft, except paddleboards and nonmotorized inflatables under 10 ft, must display an aquatic invasive species (AIS) decal while on the water. Decals cost $5 for nonmotorized and $10 for motorized watercraft and can be obtained from license-selling agents or the department website.  Sheridan Media

  • County 3 Masters' Brock Smith celebrated finishing the 4x100 relay during the Special Olympics Wyoming Area IV Summer Games on Thursday, Apr. 9 at Sheridan High School.  Sheridan Media
