Good morning, Sheridan. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 10th of April.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • During Sexual Assault Awareness Month, Sheridan Advocacy and Resource Center leaders Yvonne Swanson and Brittany Hamilton told Public Pulse that their center helps survivors share their stories without the need to file formal complaints — they said victims can take the time needed to decide on their next steps.  Sheridan Media

CULTURE NEWS

  • On April 8, the Sheridan Community Land Trust Explore History program held a tribute to George Ostrom, a local figure known for his work as a soldier, artist, and conservationist who created the bucking horse logo. The event will be repeated on April 15 at 10:30 a.m. at the TRVCC in Dayton and is free to attend.  Sheridan Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Wyoming Game and Fish is starting the WY Hunt Fish program to teach hunting and fishing skills to kids (aged 12 to 17), women and families looking for a new adventure. Selected participants will be paired with a coach to learn every part of hunting and fishing with no experience needed.  Wyoming News Now
  • Sheridan County commissioners renewed most liquor licenses for local establishments today, approving two Retail Guest Ranch Licenses, one New Restaurant License, and 16 Retail Licenses after each license holder answered questions. Representatives from Big Horn Merc Pizza, LLC, Arrowhead Lodge, LLC, and My Buddy’s Place did not attend and their licenses will be reviewed at the next meeting (pending further discussion).  Sheridan Media
  • A group of young Wyoming ranchers and farmers toured Washington, D.C. last week to learn about federal agricultural programs and meet officials like Rep. Harriet Hageman, Sen. Barrasso and Sen. Lummis—finding that while the capital is busy, the ranch offers a friendlier pace. They also visited government agencies and local farming groups as part of the Wyoming LEAD program.  Cowboy State Daily
  • Wyoming Game and Fish Department Public Information Specialist Christina Schmidt reported a strong turnout at the recent Season Setting Meetings across the Sheridan District — the public comment period ended April 2. Proposals are available on the Game and Fish website and the Commission will meet April 22 and 23 to set the season, with hunters able to update their applications after the season is set.  Sheridan Media
