COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Hub on Smith will host a Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast from 7 to 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 22 to recognize volunteers who help deliver meals, transit, and social programming for older adults across Sheridan County. Opportunities to volunteer remain available for community members wishing to support seniors.  City of Sheridan

CULTURE NEWS

  • Sheridan College Theater presents 'The Lightest Element' by Stella Feehily, a historical drama about astronomer Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin at the WYO Theater. Performances are at 7 p.m. Friday, April 17 and 2 p.m. Saturday, April 18 — tickets cost $10, $5 for veterans and free for students.  City of Sheridan
  • The Ucross Foundation presents Resilience at the Ucross Art Gallery, showing indigenous art from across America from now until May 15. An artist talk at Sheridan College and a reception at the gallery are set for Friday, April 17 — both events open and free to the public.  Sheridan Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Monday's SCSD#2 meeting, Superintendent Scott Stults discussed recalibration challenges for teacher salaries and class sizes while the board approved new policies. The district's PTO will hold its first staff-student volleyball fundraiser Thursday, April 9 at 5:30 p.m. at Sheridan Junior High School (adults $5, students $2).  Sheridan Media
  • SCSD2 announced that Drew Gallagher will become the new principal at Sagebrush Elementary. His appointment will take effect in the upcoming school year to support a smooth transition.  The Sheridan Press
  • At an April 6 board meeting, SCSD #2 recognized school staff and student teams for excellence in sportsmanship and academics. Awards went to a basketball coach and a bus driver, with officials praising bilingual achievement and arts performances — a nod to local success.  Sheridan Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sheridan County Sheriff Levi Domingez and Under-sheriff Lt. Doug Sanders discussed the statute of the month (covering walking and riding along roadways) on Public Pulse, noting that law enforcement has seen many such issues this year and urging locals to stay safe.  City of Sheridan
  • Sheridan County Emergency Management announced a free SKYWARN Storm Spotter Training for local residents on Thursday, April 30 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The training will be held at Sheridan College (Watt Agriculture Building, Room 131) where participants will learn storm basics and reporting procedures for severe weather.  City of Sheridan
  • At Monday’s business meeting, the City Council approved a license agreement with Sheridan Memorial Hospital to allow a future singletrack trail to cross hospital land at Hume Draw. The trail, to be built by the Bighorn Trails Coalition, will let pedestrians + bikers travel safely.  Sheridan Media

HEALTH NEWS

  • This April, Wyoming agencies promote Child Abuse Prevention Month and urge community support for families. Following Gov. Mark Gordon’s proclamation signing in Cheyenne on April 7, residents are encouraged to plant pinwheels and wear BOOTS on Mondays and BLUE on Fridays (weather permitting) to help make a difference.  City of Sheridan
  • The local chapter of NAMI will host a walk on May 9 to support mental health initiatives — inviting community members to raise awareness and promote well-being.  The Sheridan Press

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The Acme Power Plant & water tower will be demolished this summer from the project site between Sheridan and Ranchester off Interstate 90, ending years of limbo for the historical facility.  The Sheridan Press
