  • Veterans Village is hosting its Annual Ruck Race on May 17 at 8 a.m. to raise funds for a scaled-down development that will complete five small homes for homeless veterans in Sheridan County—participants can choose a light or heavy weight to run trails while organizer Blain Deahl noted he has identified 107 local homeless veterans on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse.  Sheridan Media
  • Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter Director AJ Evans invites community members to join the Annual Dog Jog 5K at Powder Horn for a donation based fundraiser that supports shelter animals + the event encourages runners, walkers and joggers to bring their dogs along. Registrations must be made by emailing Powder Horn Membership Director Brittany Ennis + further details will be provided before the event.  Sheridan Media

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Mark Gordon let a bill pass that will require proof of U.S. citizenship to vote in all elections and add a 30-day residency rule—Secretary of State Chuck Gray said the law will tighten election security. The law will go into effect on July 1 and new voting rules are expected by election season.  Cowboy State Daily
  • Starting April 1, the Delivering for America plan will remove afternoon mail pickups from Wyoming post offices because each is over 50 miles from a regional processing center—officials say details for Cheyenne and Casper are unclear. Lawmakers and postal workers are contesting the changes—following the early departure of Postmaster General Louis DeJoy on Monday.  Cowboy State Daily
  • Wyoming Game and Fish Department has held season setting meetings in the Sheridan Region since March 24 to discuss proposals with local hunters and the public. The final meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Monday, March 31 at the Game and Fish Sheridan Regional Office - written and online comments will be accepted until 5 p.m. April 2.  Sheridan Media
  • Yesterday, the Senate Finance Committee held a hearing on Frank Bisignano’s nomination to lead Social Security and Wyoming’s delegation said reports of the Rock Springs office shutting down were not true — only an unused room was set to close. Local officials and Rock Springs Mayor Max Mickelson confirmed that seniors’ benefits will remain safe as the agency expands in-person appointments starting March 31 — easing local worry.  Cowboy State Daily
  • On Monday, a judicial nominating commission named three candidates—Attorney General Bridget Hill, Judge Stuart S. Healy III, and attorney Anna Reeves Olson—for the governor’s consideration to fill the vacancy left by Chief Justice Kate M. Fox, who retires May 27.
