CULTURE NEWS

  • A film featured at the WYO Film Festival in Sheridan won an Oscar on March 15 and earned the Audience Choice Award during its festival run and is now recognized by Hollywood — a boost to the festival's growing profile. The festival returns Oct. 1-4 with film submissions open online.  Sheridan Media
  • Sheridan Figure Skating Club members and Learn to Skate participants will perform at the 17th annual Ice Show on March 28 at Sheridan Ice. The event will let local fans enjoy a display of talent + community spirit.  The Sheridan Press
  • Sheridan Community Land Trust today named lifelong resident Kaitlin Shaw as its History and Outreach Assistant to share local heritage and connect the community; she plans to research historic sites (including the Stone House) and develop an Iron Riders geocaching project to preserve local stories.  Sheridan Media

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Clearmont residents gathered on March 18 for Coffee at Town Hall with Brandi Harlow to review local economic trends, discuss plans to reopen the convenience store as a community cooperative, and explore new housing opportunities. The town hall closed after the event and will reopen Tuesday, March 24 at 8 a.m.  Sheridan Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Wyoming will hold its fourth annual high-altitude bull test field day and sale at Laramie Research and Extension Center on Saturday, March 28. The free event (open to all) will include a preview on Friday from 12 to 5 p.m. and a sale starting at 1 p.m.  City of Sheridan
  • The Legislature approved over $15.19 million for Sheridan College Science Center renovations and the college will contribute another $12.3 million after faculty helped shape the plan; bids for contractors will be invited soon, according to College President Dr. Walter Tribley.  Sheridan Media
  • Johnson County has opened scholarship applications for graduating seniors from Buffalo, Kaycee, and New West High School planning to attend the University of Wyoming or a college. Forms are available on the county website, with applications due April 30 at 5:00 p.m. and June 26 at 5:00 p.m.  City of Sheridan
