COMMUNITY NEWS

  • AARP Wyoming launches a new video podcast, the Fraudettes, to share real life scam stories and nationwide trends (hosted on Zoom) and will livestream monthly on Facebook (starting today).  Wyoming News Now
  • CVC Director Amy Albrecht appeared on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse to discuss the results of an Action Forum held on March 12 at the Hub on Smith that focused on ways to support middle-schoolers in the region—over 75 participants in five weeks of Study Circles helped develop key initiatives. The Forum shaped five main plans for Sheridan, Tongue River Valley, and Clearmont—efforts that will guide future community programs for these youth.  Sheridan Media
  • On March 23, the Big Horn Historical Society will meet at the Big Horn Woman’s Club building to show the Wyoming Public Television documentary on the Blizzard of '49 and then hold a brief intermission for kitchen cleanup before audience members share blizzard stories and photos—participants should bring a dish for the potluck lunch at 1 p.m. with the program starting at 2 p.m.  Sheridan Media

CULTURE NEWS

  • Jentel Artist Residency announced a new cohort of artists will share their visual artworks and writing with the Sheridan community during Jentel Presents at the Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library Inner Circle on Tuesday, March 25 from 11:30 a.m. — 1 p.m., where lunch is welcome as cookies will be provided. The residency will host the next Jentel Presents session — Tuesday, April 29.  Sheridan Media

ECONOMY NEWS

  • In January, Sheridan County's unemployment rate rose from 3.6% to 4.4% while Johnson County's increased from 3.2% to 4.0%, and Wyoming's statewide rate went from 3.5% in December to 3.6% compared to 2.8% last January. Non-farm jobs increased by 4,000—adding more workers are available for job openings—according to the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services.  Sheridan Media

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Wyoming Extension announced Rancher’$ E.D.G.E., a new educational series combining classroom instruction and field training for ranchers — the program will hold sessions in Sheridan on April 9-10, Thermopolis on June 24-25 and Laramie on November 18-19, each costing $250 per session. The series covers risk management, livestock nutrition and marketing strategies for modern ranch management.  Sheridan Media

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On March 11, wildlife managers from the Wyoming Game and Fish Department immobilized a deer in Sheridan and removed a large plastic lid from its neck.  The Sheridan Press
