Good morning, Sheridan. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 14th of March.

CRIME NEWS

  • Sheridan man and former SHS assistant principal Jacob Meyer was sentenced to 3 to 5 years in prison after a jury convicted him of sexual assault in the second degree for an incident on April 19, 2024, and Fourth Judicial District Court ordered him to pay $275 in court costs (Meyer will receive credit for time served).  Sheridan Media

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Data from February 2025 show that women in Wyoming earn only 65 cents for every dollar men earn and must work extra months to match their income. Local experts say low wages in female-dominated fields and deep-rooted cultural views have led many to start businesses to secure better pay — a change they believe is needed to close the gap.  Wyoming News Now
  • Wyoming consumer advocates warn that Rocky Mountain Power customers may face more rate hikes as the Public Service Commission debates a 10.2% increase by March 28—if approved, it will go into effect on June 1. They also expect future discussions over an expiring multi-state power-sharing compact to bring additional rate changes.  Cowboy State Daily

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sheridan Fire and Rescue Chief Gary Harnish advised residents to check smoke alarm batteries when changing clocks for Daylight Saving Time—he added that his team stands ready to help with alarms in hard-to-reach places and recommended replacing any alarm that is over 10 years old. The department will also supply alarms through a partnership with the American Red Cross for those unable to make replacements.  Sheridan Media
  • Sheridan County lawmakers reviewed their session and praised efforts that secured property tax relief for locals - they also expanded school-choice options for all state residents.  The Sheridan Press
  • Sheridan County commissioners ratified a License Agreement with Powder River Energy Corp to install an overhead single-phase power line at a residence on County Road #1237—also known as Youngs Creek Road—and exempt the project from county fees.  Sheridan Media
